Hi all

I'm looking for the best price ticket option for a Wolverhampton-Prestatyn return for four adults, none with railcards. Outward this Saturday 8th, return following Saturday 15th.

Can anyone better the off peak return price?

Thanks :)

We can't guarantee the best price (because there's a world of splitting, over-travelling options, and because the definition of best can vary ie it is not always equivalent to 'cheapest'), but we can see if we can do it cheaper and then tell you whether this brings extra restrictions.

I don't know the area well so can't advise on splits etc, but if you or your friends regularly travel together at all, then you might be interested in the new Two-Together Railcard, currently being trialled in the West Midlands. It's a railcard for two people, who must always travel together when you use it. As you will want the railcard by Saturday, you'll probably need to buy it at the station. Full details are on the webpage.

Having the railcard will cut your cost to £105 from £159.20. The railcards cost £28 each, so you'd pay £3 more for this journey but obviously you'd get a year of savings.

You can get Groupsave ticket on London Midland for the section Wolverhampton to Crewe.

If any of the passengers are over 55 they could get Arrive Trains Wales Club 55 returns for £18. Direct service from Wolverhampton to Prestatyn taking just over 2 hours.

Well, I looked in some depth, with and without splitting at Crewe

The cheapest advance was total £78, leaving at 05:28 and returning at 20:45
The next cheapest advance was total £128

Splitting at Crewe:
Off peak return with LM groupsave (4 for 2) to Crewe 4 = £32.20
Off peak return x4 Crewe-Prestatyn x4 = £79.60
total cost £111.80, so more expensive than the cheapest advance combination but cheaper than the next cheapest
