Hi all

I am looking to make a journey from Birmingham to Glasgow after 16:00 on 25 January, and return to Wolverhampton any time on the 27 January.

So far I have been able to find the following advances:

25 Jan 16:03 Birmingham - Glasgow at £46.50 advance
27 Jan 16:55 Glasgow - Birmingham at £29.00 advance

total £75.50

Both are advances with XC, I wondered if anyone can beat price with split ticketing, even better if it's on Virgin but cost is more important than time.

Thanks in advance anyone who can help.

Also an added bonus of a HST on the outbound journey

Hmm, having looked a little deeper there is an option that would get me into Glasgow nearly 2 hour earlier, 16:20 from Birmingham changing at Preston for £54 also.

edit: splitting advances at Preston I can get this for £23.50 (from Wolves) + £13.00 total £36.50

If you are happy to arrive in Glasgow at 0006 on the Friday and travel via Liverpool try this option :

2025 Liverpool Lime Street to Preston 2122 (Northern)
2141 Preston to Glasgow Central 0006 (Virgin)

£16.50 VWC + Connections Advance

Total : £24.50

Return Sunday :

1506 Glasgow Central - Manchester Victoria 1831

£16.00 First TPE Advance

Walk yourself across to Manchester Piccadilly

1927 Manchester - Wolverhampton 2039

£11.00 XC Advance

Total : £27.00

Total cost overall : £51.50

0006 is too late to arrive at Glasgow really and I'm happy with the £36.50 split at Preston

Thanks for the return option though which is a £2 saving for much better timings and a shorter journey than all the way with XC to Birmingham.

If you're happy to, on the way back you can travel from Glasgow to Edinburgh (£4 Megabus, or £13 train) and then Megatrain from Edinburgh to Birmingham is £13.
On the way there, unfortunately, the £13 Megatrain departs very early.
The Megatrain services are actually seats on a Virgin train, too :)
