Does anyone have a better option than the £30 SVR and £2.90 Metrolink fare for the above journey?

I want to arrive before 13:00 and depart as late as possible but as there is only £2 difference between an advance each way and the off peak return, the flexibility currently wins out.

A £33.70 SVR through ticket is available... not that I'd recommend it in this situation... or ever, really. But there is certainly the convenience to consider.
