Wolverhampton-Hartlepool

Hi everyone Looking for some advice/options please. I am travelling from Wolves to Hartlepool on the 4th Oct and returning on the 7th Oct, I am trying to find a cheaper fare than the full price return of £84.80. I have been exploring various options and splits and the best I can come up with is :-
0949 Wolves-1236 York £16.00 ADV
1322 York-Hartlepool £15.00 anytime return with Grand Central

and returning Sunday 7th
Hartlepool 1236-1348 York on the GC return
York 1434-Wolves £26.00 ADV

Can anyone possibly beat this price of £57 ????
I have no railcards and no time restrictions.

Would you consider Megabus between Birmingham & Middlesborough as the cost would come down to around £34.00

It's slightly cheaper to split at Northallerton:

09:28 Wolves to Northallerton £20.00 (change at Birmingham, York, arr 12:54)
13:46 Northallerton to Hartlepool £8 Anytime Return GC Only

Return

12:36 Hartlepool to Northallerton (arr 13:23)
13:55 Northallerton to Wolves £26.00 (change at York, Birmingham, arr 17:10)

Any further north there seems to be a jump in Advance ticket prices.

Would a split at Leeds travelling via Manchester work out any cheaper? Don't have the time to explore the option in full.

Wolves-Leeds via Manchester takes roughly the same amount of time as it does via Birmingham

DONT DO IT - SAVE YOURSELF! FLEE!

What I would do is get the train to Darlington. And get off.

IF you MUST travel to Hartlepoohls you can do the XC BHM - York shuffle and try and save. Split at Derby, Sheffield and York. I think GC will offer you the best value from York as well as a direct service to your destination. A split at Northallerton might save you a bit more as well

However, i doubt any of that will beat your published advance fares.

I considered this option last night for the OP before realising that the prices were roughly the same as travelling via XC through Derby.

Thank you all for your replies and apologies for my late reply but work got in the way
Some interesting options there guys, some I have used in the past thanks to the help of members previously
I have done the Manchester split and looked into it for this journey but the prices were very similar to my option, in fact probably more expensive if I remember correctly. I wouldn`t have thought of using Leeds also so thank you for that thought---one to remember
Megabus I have also done very cheaply £9 in total..the outward journey was fine n dandy but the return was horrendous so I have left this option as a last resort

The Northallerton split is an option but having been there once or twice I remember that there is nothing on the station but a small shop so I think I would rather use the waiting time for the Hpool conection at York...at least there is a lot to watch and of course there is the pub

Thank you once again for all your help I think I will be using my option on this occasion and I am rather pleased that all my reading and observations on this site has helped my find my own splits

LOL that is exactly what I used to do....and then get a lift to Pools .
Also I did FLEE..around 25yrs ago but hey it will always be home

Fair enough, only there is a Wolverhampton-Leeds route Manchester SVR off-peak return available at £46 priced by FTPE vs any permitted at £56.10 priced by XC.

Would you consider a early start at 0545? For a grand tour to Hartlepool?

Wolverhampton - Birmingham New Street - Edinburgh via West Coast - Hartlepool

Outward can be done for around £20.00 using Megatrain & East Coast Advance

It's only a suggestion :P
