Woltersdorf Tram

I understand new trams are being introduced on the Woltersdorf Tram replacing the old ones.

I'm planning a trip to the area in mid-August; how likely am I to rock up and get one of the old trams?

Greets from Wuppertal now, where its famous ´Schwebebahn´ was also hitting a problem 1 hr ago-technical problems, no service.
Well, just yesterday I received my copy of BS= Blickpunkt Strassenbahn, a 2-monthly thick german tramway-oriented mag.
About Wolterdorf it states all 3 new Moderus Gamma trams have been received, BUT the official ´Zulassung´ frm the traffic supervisors (official admission) will not happen before late summer. The school hols in this ´land´ last till 30/1 aug, so all in all I guess you have a good chance to still the old cars running.
Burocracy (buro-crazyness) as you know is a very big thing here in Deutschland, esp with all things even remotely tied to some govmt. branch.
BS also comments that with new buses this process goes much, much faster.

Curiously enough I was just looking at this too.

I have no local knowledge, but looking at on-line maps it seems that a lakeside walk of an hour or so would get one to Rüdersdorf for a metre gauge tram ride back to the S-bahn (if that's how you got to the Woltersdorf tram in the first place - if not, the S-bahn could take you back to where you parked the car). This tramway also seems to have some interesting rolling stock too so the whole thing might make an interesting circular trip on a nice day.

It looks as if both tramways are also reachable from central Berlin by tram, albeit somewhat indirectly, and with a short walk at Rahnsdorf between the regular tram and the Woltersdorf tram. I hadn't realised how much the Berlin tram network extends into countryside.

No need to walk Woltersdorf-Rüdersdorf (although exercise is better than no exercise).

Conveniently, bus 950 every 30' on weekdays links Erkner S-bahn, Woltersdorf Kiche (short walk to tram), Rüdersdorf Museumspark (quarry, lime kilns etc) to the end of the tramway at Alt Rüdersdorf then continues to Strausberg S-Bahn from where you can use the Strausberg tramway to reach the fun electric cable-powered lake ferry. So 3 tram route oddities 2 S-Bahn lines and a unique electric ferry all linked by 1 bus.

Berlin BC zones cover the area so if you have bought a day ticket to get to the tramways it covers the bus too. Edit: Straussee ferry is not in VBB tariff, checked just now.

Yes, Rahnsdorf S/Woltersdorf tram is only about half a mile's walk or bus 161 from Rahnsdorf Waldschänke terminus of BVG tram route 61, they all seem to sort-of connect.

A pleasant wooded walk (not that I've tested it but I have a vague memory from riding the overland 61 to/from the Müggelsee and the 68 from Köpenick to Alt-Schmöckwitz - both are worth it if you've time.

Ah - I knew about that ferry but hadn't realised it was in/near Berlin.

Is there anything particularly interesting about the Strausberg tramway apart from not being operated by BVG?
It looks as if it just operates with yellow Flexities.
Wikipedia says that it runs under railway rather than tramway rules but would that actually be evident?

It is indeed a nice walk, along the Kalksee. Did that ~20 years ago.

Strausberg has two Flexities and two other trams in operation. One is a modernised Tatra KT8 with a low floor centre section. The other is the unique bidirectional Tatra T6C5, which was built in 1998 as a demonstrator for New Orleans.

Checked, bus 950 now varies: half hourly up to about 0900 and 1200-1800, hourly early, 0900-1200 and evenings.

BOStrab versus EBO: nothing exciting to the user, as you probably know, Karlsruhe. Kassel, Chemnitz and so on have many services switching between the two.

More interesting, a bit further on from Strausberg, is the Buckower Keinbahn but that's a weekends-only museum operation and outside Berlin zone C.

Strausberg Tram operates per BOStrab, normal tram regulations.
