Wokingham/Reading to Ashford International

Happy New Year,

I have been trying to book Wokingham to Asford(Kent) via HS1. I can get a route, but I have been informed that I need to buy two tickets tickets(splitting at St Pancras).

If however I leave from Reading I can buy a through ticket.

However if I go on the classic route via Reading, Paddington, Victoria/Charing Cross I can go through on one ticket.

Is this crazy?
