I had hoped that too. I don't think its a bad livery or colour scheme in general.. Its just the front. Full yellow or no yellow.. please!

And whichever they go for...clean the flies off unlike the first unit (and repaint the rubbing surfaces), please!

Highlighting the gangway alone in yellow just makes it look rubbish. Gangways are practical but ugly, the design needs to try to hide it as much as possible.

Hopefully those lights are reconfigured and we can ditch the yellow panel.

I sincerely hope not, getting rid of the requirement for the warning panel was an act of sheer stupidity and an accident waiting to happen. A number of trackside workers have expressed concern that in a heat haze or an undulating line, that lights will be a poor substitute. Safety should trump aesthetics every time.

If they got rid of the yellow end, then it’ll look good. Doesn’t make a difference anyway.

I think three yellow squares, under each of the windows and the bottom half of the gangway door would have been a better design.

I saw a train in Leamington last night in the purple livery. No able to identify it but I think there is only one diesel in that livery. This is my first sighting and I have not seen a decent clear sideways photo yet.

There are two units at the time of writing in the finalised orange and purple livery - 172335 and 172342.

Few people say this.
But where are the recent studies?

If the lights are bright enough, nobody is going to see it's yellow on the front, no matter the weather.

I'd also welcome near-miss incidents where the yellow front directly contributed to the person being warned a train was there, rather than any other factor.

Given that almost all UK trains have yellow warning panels at this moment in time, a test isn't really possible until we have the mixed fleet. I am not sure of any research being done before the regulations were changed, I'm happy to be corrected on that. Even so it seems daft to move away from yellow warning panels, given that a train front has to be painted, it costs next to nothing to do. There's no benefit in removing the regulation apart from perceived aesthetic value.

There was a thread dedicated to the removal of the requirement for a yellow panel on these. Boards and a number of trackside workers expressed concerns about lights not being visible in certain weather conditions.

Having worked on the track on a sunny but hazy morning, the first thing we saw, of the 185 approaching us, was the headlights. It wasn’t until we were in a position of safety was the yellow even considered. The lights shone through the haze very brightly.

Tipton has now gained orange lampposts, I'm not sure if anything else there has been done as I only saw them while walking past the station along the canal.

323203 has now been tangoed.

Also Perry Barr Station has now turned Orange as well. Almost complete, just lampposts to finish when I passed earlier today

There's so many livery variations now, and not one actually looks good. The new 172 livery is the most bearable one for me now, but it's still grim.

Their publicity bod seems to be quite proud of it all on Twitter, doesn't he? Sadly, I think he's just making a fool of himself as every last bit of WMT's promotional stuff I've seen so far has been mediocre and amateurish at best; he's nothing on Ray Stenning (though he probably wears more sensible shorts :) ).

The livery does vaguely suit the 230, but it's still drab and looks like a packet of Trebor Mints. Not quite fGW Flying Fag Packet, but not much better.

No, the vinylled green that was applied over the top of the quite tasteful "Merlin" green when FirstGroup took over. I liked Dynamic Lines, one of the nicest rail liveries ever and a real shame it wasn't applied to buses too.
