Some images I took of
1V21 1650 Birmingham New Street to Hereford
Bloody hell, they could have at least washed it first before they slapped new stickers on the cab ends. :-\ When did TOCs start taking such little pride in the image they provide to the public?

Yeah.. they could have taken it through the Tyseley carriage wash before applying the stickers..

It’s a good livery. Even with the yellow front, it doesn’t look like sick. I’d wish they’d run with this one permanently to be honest.

Should keep it simple and go with a flatter/brighter orange colour just like the blue and red they use for trams/buses.

So we now have the 172 in the initial livery, the 170 in this livery, another 172 soon to be launched in yet a different livery.

Three trains repained since franchise launch, all in different liveries? What a farce.
Yes and Northern and SWR following suit

Yes, quite, but as I think it's already been stated 170's do not have the correct style headlights so must have a yellow end

I wonder whether a "transitional" livery that retains the LM livery elements that you've described is planned to be applied to stock that's leaving the franchise?
Sorry, I should have added this to the post.
The source suggested yes (in answer to your question). As these units will be leaving, they won't see the full shebang livery.

But they could have new style lights...
Not that difficult.
You either design a livery that has a yellow front included, or one that doesn't. Having clashing colours because they didn't plan for a yellow front isn't great design talent.

Not too sure if the repaint of stations into WMR orange is appropriate here, but the following stations are in the new colours:
  • B'ham Snow Hill (since launch day)
  • Wolverhampton (since transfer from VT)
  • Water Orton
  • Adderley Park
  • Hampton-in-Arden
I assume that stations on the WCML will get LNWR branding in a similar vein - not that I've seen any evidence of it yet.

and Snow Hill has more purple than Wolverhampton doesn’t it? I’m sure the lighting columns were just orange and grey the last time I was at Wolverhampton.

That is indeed the case; it was orange and purple when the emphasis was more on purple than orange during the launch.

I suppose the painting refresh on the WCML stations wouldn't be so important because they have black and green already. And LNR have appropriately chosen a green for their brand, be it a different green granted.

Does anyone know the actual reason for the full yellow style of livery applied to the class 170?

Is this the livery to be applied to all their class 170s?

Is this the new final livery for all WMR units, or is the original livery (featured on the fully liveried 172) the proper design and this yellow one was a one off special?

The final livery is supposed to be the one posted not long back, where it’s similar to the new orange one but the rest of the train is in purple. But who really knows right now.

I'd quite like it if they did something similar to LNWR, so leave the current LM scheme on, but make the LNWR design around the cab. Save a bit of cash, whilst developing a nice brand.

While I'm always in favour of the yellow ends, I do see what people mean about it looking... odd. All other liveries on the flat-fronted *stars have had a very contrasting colour (even counting white as such on c2c trains) around the edge of the obviously-designed-to-be-the-yellow-section... section. The orange-gold isn't quite different enough.

Clearly the solution is to go LO-style and have the yellow wrap around like they were on the GOBLIN.

If anyone knows the unit number and what diagram it’s on, I’ll do my best to get some piccies at New Street!

323209 is currently in the yard at soho in the new livery. It's the only one stabled so very easy to see from a passing train.

Stone is in an orange and white scheme... according to designers, stations that are physically in the WM (no matter whether or not they are served by WMR) will be painted in the wmr scheme. The tweet from Sam is somewhere on my twitter (@officialgmoore).

I can’t wait to see what they’re going to do to a 153!

According to the relivery brief we've had you'll have a long wait!
There are 64 units being done between July and November by Aura graphics at Tyseley and Soho. These being the 26 323s and 23 170s getting a light rebrand and 15 3-car 172/3 get a full rebrand.
