196011 and 012 were out yesterday. 196008 and 011 out today. All seems random to me.
On what services ?.196011 and 012 were out yesterday. 196008 and 011 out today. All seems random to me.
I think 011 + 004 were coming back to Tyseley from Worcester side mid morning (09:07 I think) having worked a 4car diagram !. Probably 011 got fuelled etc then went onto the Shrewesbury side for the rest of the day on a 2car diagram.011 & 012 were on Shrewsbury services on the 9th, I was on them.
Today 008 is on Shrewsbury and 011 on the Nuneatons.
Almost certainly the first two (of six) heading to Chiltern for East West Rail services.*= 196009 & 196010 are apparently off lease.
196009/010. Probably only only 2 units will be required for Driver Training. At present it looks as if the planned date for start of service is May 2025. Possibly public service could start earlier depending on the driver training programme.could start earlier Almost certainly the first two (of six) heading to Chiltern for East West Rail services.

I am assuming that the units transferred to Chiltern will be reliveried.
Sorry if this has been asked before, will the EWR 196s be reliveried in Chiltern colours ?
Also Chiltern's contract expires at end of March so they could be the first trains to receive whatever livery Great British Railways choses. They will most likely be reliveried but whether they receive Chiltern colours is anyone's guess. There may be a new livery devised for EWR...
Something that minimises the amount of vinyl needed, but still looks different from WMR. It is almost certain that the 196s won't be repainted. They will most likely be reliveried but whether they receive Chiltern colours is anyone's guess. There may be a new livery devised for EWR...
I wonder if Regional Railways will suit new units? Also Chiltern's contract expires at end of March so they could be the first trains to receive whatever livery Great British Railways choses.
Where are 009 & 010 ? Tyseley ?
A while ago but 196113 noted at Birmingham end of Tyseley from a passing train on 27/08/2024 at about 17:05. There was an unidentified 196/1 next to it which could have been 114 but bushes hid numbers.Passing Tyseley today I noted 196007 & 196009 at the station end of the stabling sidings together with 196001 (readable from passing train). Didn't note 010
196004 & 008 were on Coventry workings
196003, 005, 006 & 011+012 were on Shrewsbury workings
Does anyone know if 113 & 114 are visible at Tyseley? There were lots of 4 cars stabled at TS. Not many 4 cars working - 108 & 109 on Shrewsbury's, 105 on Gt Malvern (most New St - Gt Malvern/Worcester cancelled).
Hope this helps
It is easiest to see what is there from a passing train coming from Stratford so on the line nearest the sidings.
True enough. I have always been starting from Tyseley so tend to ignore (forget about) the non-stop trains from Stratford. It's probably better to say "train coming from Spring Road", there are trains from Stratford that go via Dorridge, use the far pair of lines and pass through Tyseley station without stopping.
196007 last reported in post 3046 above as being at Tyseley 14/9/24 apparently stabledHas 196007 been in service recently please? It is the last of the sub class that I need to ride.
Progress at last !.196113 finally in service today on the Bham-Worcester route (I had it on 1v25).
Just 114 to work now.
The last record I have of 196007 working was 06/08/2024. My record covers almost all weekdays.Has 196007 been in service recently please? It is the last of the sub class that I need to ride.
Yes the meaning of 'off lease' is questionable. Literally 'off lease' means returned to the control of the leasing finance company. The term used when we first heard about 6 units going to EWR was that they would be sub leased which means that they would still be WMT stock but subleased to EWR.So I suspect 196007 will be front of the queue if another is to go off lease (the exact meaning of off lease I am not sure of).
It might be that 196009 & 196010 are being kept available for sub lease (to EWR). However I think I did read somewhere that the lease on the 196s is nearly at the end and ready for renewal but that seems like a short lease. I do wonder if 196113 has only just started its lease ?.Yes the meaning of 'off lease' is questionable. Literally 'off lease' means returned to the control of the leasing finance company. Thank you for the update Peter.Progress at last !.
It has been noticeable how many 196/0s have been in use on four car diagrams. I suppose it is getting to the stage with East West Rail that six (?) 196/0s are earmarked for EWR and so the last two 196/1s have to be got into service.

The two 196s reported as off lease (009 & 010) stopped working less than a week before 196007 and all (9) other 196/0s have worked since 196007's last working. So I suspect 196007 will be front of the queue if another is to go off lease (the exact meaning of off lease I am not sure of).
A fly past of Tyseley on the line nearest the sidings will get you a few 196s so it might be there. Binoculars and a careful probe of all angles/gaps whilst walking between the Tyseley station platform, entrance and all the way round to the depot entrance is productive. The fly past is hopeless as the days get shorter and the sun gets lower - I could see nothing through the dirty train windows last November (was bright sun mind) !.Thank you for the update Peter.
Thank you Peter. I saw 196007 at Wolverhampton on 4th June. I still need it for haulage though.A fly past of Tyseley on the line nearest the sidings will get you a few 196s so it might be there.
