WM Metro - Wolverhampton St George's

After the extension to Wolves Station opened last year the original terminus closed, WM Metro themselves said it was for some remidial works and that it would reopen earlier this summer. This has obviously yet to occur?

I suspect we've quietly seen the end of this stop and trams are unlikely to ever serve it again (unless the city centre loop is ever built), especially with the Piper's Row stop only 100 yards away.

Is there any official news on the future of St George's? It is still depicted on the new maps and signage appearing on the network so I guess they plan to do something with it eventually, maybe when the Dudley line opens they'll turn those trams there to avoid congestion at the station? But this seems counter intuitive.

Transport bosses have reassured a frustrated Wolverhampton councillor that a tram stop which has been shut for months has not been forgotten. Councillor Carol Hyatt told members of the West Midlands Combined Authority's transport delivery overview and scrutiny committee there were outstanding issues with Metro stations in the city centre.

And she said one of those was the reopening of St Georges terminus which was closed almost a year ago to enable improvement works to be carried out. Councillor Hyatt also said there were still some works waiting to be completed at the stop serving Wolverhampton train station, which finally opened in September last year.

Anne Shaw, Director of Transport for West Midlands, said that while there was no date for when St Georges will reopen, they were working with the City of Wolverhampton Council to complete it. Councillor Hyatt said: "In Wolverhampton we have two Metro stations now. One at the station but the previous one at St George's has been closed for months.

"It just remains to be unable to be used. The Metro line which goes to the station hasn't quite been completed. The cycle hub hasn't been opened, the lights haven't been sorted. It's taken a really long time. It's almost as if you've moved on to the next project and that's the one you are focusing on now."

I suspect they mean termini, as there was already more than 1 metro station in Wolverhampton.

My opinion, St Georges is a pointless stop. They could make it less pointless by demolishing it, extend the line 65 metres, pedestrianise Dudley Street, remove the scruffy on-street car parking and rebuild a Market Street tram stop on the side of Primark - it'd be well used by shoppers.

My opinion, St Georges is a pointless stop. They could make it less pointless by demolishing it, extend the line 65 metres, pedestrianise Dudley Street, remove the scruffy on-street car parking and rebuild a Market Street tram stop on the side of Primark - it'd be well used by shoppers.

Half of the stop having been turned into a coach stand at some point wasn't exactly a positive feature either, for the public realm, or the poor sods sitting there waiting for the tram to arrive.
