Place I was born & brought (dragged) up!! :)

West Kirby & Hoylake...

Chippy. One in West Kirby.
Pub. Green lodge, 4 minute walk from Hoylake station.
Beach. Lots of it.

Would suggest, train to West Kirby, walk down towards the front, but before the Morrisons turn left onto Banks Road and Marigolds Chippy is 30feet away.

If it was me, I'd eat the bag of chips down on the front at West Kirby, and then a 45 minute walk turning right, along the beach to Hoylake, lovely walk. Nice views of Hilbre Island as you walk. Best at sunset.

After 20 minutes, you pass the end of Stanley road after the golf course, but stay on the beach round Red Rocks following the coastline around the corner, and after walking across the top bay, you reach Hoylake Prom after another 15 minutes across the sand.

Turn right at the prom and walk up The Kings Gap... and after 1 minutes, the Green Lodge Pub is on your right, and the station is 2 minutes further on, on the left.

Last time I was on the Wirral coast - it was all mud from the Mersey Estuary to Hoylake. I remember from my visits to my Grandparents when I was a youngster, glorious sands from the Derby Baths at Wallasey through to Moreton and beyond. I remember cockle-ing there distinctly, but last time I was there I think that I'd get stuck in the Mersey mud. There was a funfair at Moreton Beach too I recall - great fun for a pre-teen with generous grandparents.

Red Rocks and the walk to Hilbre Island is good. (watch out for the tides)

Down on the Dee, Parkgate was a fun place with wonderful Ice-cream (just as good as back home in Cornwall).

Fish and Chips? From the Irish sea I wouldn't have the fish and I don't do defrosted.

Pub - I had a decent pint or five at the Coach and Horses at Moreton Cross a good mile from the beach last time I was up there which would have been about 5 years back.

BTW- off topic, I do remember too queueing up outside of Cadburys factory by Moreton Station to get spoils of broken chocolate biscuits and chocolate bars for next to nothing outside of the factory gates. Also seeing tanker freight being moved from the factory onto the Wirral line and up towards Bidston. Anyone any idea what was being moved and where to? It's a question I have thought about for many years.

I live on the Wirral so,

For beach your best bet is West Kirby however if you fancy doing this then, get off the Train at New Brighton & walk down the Wirral Coastal Path to Hoylake[you can do this from Seacombe Ferry to Hoylake if you fancy]but it's a good 4/5 mile walk from New Brighton to Hoylake extra couple of miles from Seacombe. There's a good takeaway the Green hut by Leasowe Lighthouse with seats & tables outside that does cracking Chips, Fish & Chips with Fruity Curry is out of this world although it's only open during the Day. Although i've never been in there there's a Cafe at New Brighton Station that do Breakfasts ecc.

For pubs i do like The Farmers Arms in Moreton[by Moreton Cross] which also does meals, but i normally avoid other pubs around Moreton Cross especially The Crossbar, my local is The Armchair on Hoylake Road bout 1/4 mile from Leasowe Station. Although i've never been in there The Grange pub is recommended by a few mates, it's on Hoylake Road the other side of Moreton from my local

West Kirby is your best bet for a decent, un-muddy beach. The marigolds chippy is a bit expensive though at about 9 quid for fish and chips
