Wiring an ex GWR first class HST table

Bit of a random query. I ended up purchasing a couple of first class seats from a GWR HST and it also came with a table. I was wandering if anyone knew how to wire it up to get the plug sockets working and what power source it would need.

It will need mains voltage connecting somewhere for the sockets to work, but the photos don't show which wire connects to where or where the incoming supply needs to connect.

Note also that some of the bare contacts on the fourth photo will be live at mains voltage if it is connected up, and therefore highly dangerous if accessible. When fitted in the train this would have been against the wall and therefore inaccessible, so you need to do something similar or cover the back in some other way.

I suggest you get advice from a professional electrician.

Thanks for your help. That answers my main question which is that it's mains voltage which I thought but wasn't 100% as on trains they are mostly used to charge laptops and phones.

I have done some more research and found that the live and neutral wire are connected to the L & N on the right hand PCB in photo 4 and the wires above that then take the power to the sockets and USB. The wires in the green connector are just 5v and light up the LEDs in the table. The earth wire should be connected with a ring terminal to the bolt with the sticker at the bottom.

I will definitely find a cover for it unlike this example photo which I found online.

The 3 pin ‘mains’ sockets on trains are still at the normal voltage, but cannot usually provide the full current you’d expect from a household socket, ie 13 Amps. The low current available is the reason why they’re labelled as suitable for laptops and phones only.

It appears that the BS1363 sockets are internally fused. But I concur that a qualified electrician should be consulted.

You would likely need to manufacture a panel yourself as I don’t know if Grinsty Rail (the successor to Arrowvale) would supply one.
