No! An engineering train broke down, a train that repairs the wires, that is not a rescue train.

Well it's still two different trains that broke down that were supposed to be sorting things out isn't it.

No, it was 1 infrastructure failure (the wires tripping out) which was the original fault and 1 train failure (the engineering train).

Except that's not what SE said is it. They quite clearly say multiple trains have broken down.

SE saying it doesn't make it so. It'd be great if they could have got their information right, but we don't know exactly what was said to their twitter admin.

Did you manage to get where you needed to be? :)

It appears that there was a bus service to Canterbury but it left (1h) before you managed to get there if you took the 23:44.
Reached Ashford by 00:30, then it was about an hour and a quarter wait for a taxi with 3 other passengers getting me to Canterbury just over two hours late.

Alright. It is a shame it came to that, taxi must’ve been expensive too, or did southeastern arrange it and pay for it? Well at least you are/were where you needed to be and hopefully such a large disruptive incident won’t happen for a while now on HS1

Yes Southeastern paid for it thankfully.

So reading the twitter feed from Network Rail, circuit breakers opened cutting power and brought trains to a stand, as they closed the circuit breakers and powered trains back up, it was identified part of the overhead line had broken, stranding one of southeasterns 395s.

Another 395 was brought alongside to evacuate customers from.

Work continued overnight to repair the wires, then an engineering train doing the work then broke down which took some time to repair and meant a delay to reopening the railway on the morning.

So, one infrastructure failure and one train failure.

In all fairness to Southeastern taxis in Ashford are notoriously difficult at night especially out of town. I live about 16 miles west on the Sussex border and its often impossible to book a taxi or its prohibitively expensive even though we are in Ashford Borough. Im told its actually cheaper/easier to continue to Folkestone and come back from there.
