Winter solstice weekend :-(

It's been going dark (ie full-on headlights) by 3.15 here in Boltonland for the past fortnight and darned miserable it is too. Feel sorry for anyone living in the Shetlands, I feel your pain (but can't see it, obviously).

However, good news, the winter solstice will be at 0419 GMT Sunday, so after that we can all look forward to a bit more light in the early evenings. If it can penetrate the clouds...

Sunset in Lerwick today was 2:57 PM!!, and it won't rise again until 09.08 tomorrow. Couple that with the heavy rain clouds and I'll bet it was barely light even at midday

Correct; earliest sunset was 16th December this year. Latest sunrise is roughly three weeks later than that.

Being celebrated by hundreds of people outside my house right now, being the Montol festival Amazingly, the steady rain and gloom cleared away from West Cornwall this afternoon and the sun even shone (briefly).
