Windows 10 are currently having quite a strong television advertisement programme and I noted at a recent visit to the computer department at the John Lewis store at Cheadle Royal that there was a sales team member of Windows 10 garbed in a distinctive tee-shirt emblazoned with the Windows 10 logo.

Were theya sales team member of Windows 10 or just JL staff wearing promotional shirt?

Looks like a trip to JL to see these shirts is in order!

In my experience, John Lewis don't have their staff branded*. I've been in stores where I was referred to a Sony rep and a Canon rep. both of whom said that they weren't JL staff but (obviously) did have some knowledge of stock and order times for their company's products.

* as in wearing their suppliers' shirts etc. - i.e. not having the JL logo burnt into them with a hot iron!

I think I'll stick with an OS that doesn't have loads of spying / data leakage to Microsoft built in and enabled by default.

I'm about to update my daughter's machines with an SSD. Once that's done and I have a clone of the HDD, I'll upgrade to Win 10. Nothing to lose, other than some time screwing the HDD back in......

They'll be a field marketing agency, and in my experience they can have a very mixed level of knowledge.

Some will be genuinely interested in what they're 'selling' that day and have gone beyond the call of duty on the initial training/briefing. Or others will be like the 'Samsung' guy who I saw a fair bit at John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City who appeared to answer questions by looking at the card next to the products, before later admitting that he didn't know much about Android as he used an iPad.

I did think it rather odd that he was there to try and promote Samsung tablets, but would have probably steered more people towards Apple.

Or maybe he was actually being paid to be there by Apple and that was the plan all along!

Well i can say i have taken the plunge from day one with Windows 10 and have had no issues whatsoever, everything has run smoothly from reserving to installation to first run and it has also solved a slight audio problem i was having which in 8.1 was when i started up my machine it would log on but my speaker icon would have a red cross over it and it would say no speakers or headphones plugged in. I would have to restart before my audio worked again.

I also had a few issues when i first upgraded to 8.1 initially by getting a lot of OOM errors but after stepping back to 8 and leaving it a couple of weeks 8.1 worked fine.

The only thing i find slightly confusing is the way they have done the options on windows 10 there is a difference from previous versions and the lack of a control panel was a bit of a shock! but all in all i can recommend 10 very highly and IMO i think it runs slightly faster than 8.1.

I have windows 10 Pro and as well as the settings menu have the old control panel as well.

Like win 7 and 8 you have God Mode too if you activate it which has 260 settings you can play with.

Although I expect most people already know how to get God Mode do this if you don't.

  1. Make sure your system has administrative privileges.
  2. Make a new folder on your desktop:
  3. Name the new folder: {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}and hit enter.

Seemingly also whilst the "features" are disabled.

Anyone considering the upgrade: ask yourselves whether or not your privacy is an acceptable price to pay for Microsoft to decide what's best for you
