Hi guys,

Just a quick question.

I am planning a journey from Winchfield - Wakefield Westgate return on 10th February and 12th February respectively. The journey time is normally c.4 hours, however on the return leg it is more like 6. Anyone know why this may be? Is there any planned works taking place? Last time I travelled on the Sunday the journey time was the same.

Cheers,

Will

Had a quick look for you. The extended journey is between Kings X and Wakefield Westgate:

Engineering work is taking place between Peterborough and Hitchin, closing all lines.

If you are travelling on Virgin Trains East Coast, trains are diverted between Peterborough and London Kings Cross extending your journey time by 75 minutes.

On the Sunday you get diverted via. Cambridge and down through Letchworth to avoid the blockade.

Journey up (random Friday service):

Journey back down to London (with Sunday diversion):

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y60618/2017/02/12/advanced

That explains the difference in journey time for you.

(Better than a rail replacement bus!)

Enjoy your trip.

Just be thankful it appears to be a Sunday where SWT are not diverting via Staines adding even more journey time to your journey :)
