Winchester Booking Office lack of basic knowledge

Son travelling today on the 1132 Winchester to Birmingham International, then onwards to Shrewsbury. Just asked for the £85.30 off-peak single Winchester to Shrewsbury (route + Birmingham) at the BO window (screen shot sent by me so he was fully equipped to ask for the correct ticket). Clerk claimed it didn't exist and insisted the cheapest was the £113.50 off-peak single (route Not London). How can these people have such a poor knowledge of basic ticketing? Shocking.

Webform sent to SWT to see if we can elicit a refund for the mis-selling.

Very common for ticket office staff to advertise their competition I'm afraid. Next time I'd buy the tickets from Trainsplit instead...

How would the menu on the staff member's screen from entering the origin and destination not show this as an option?
