Does anyone have any knowledge of pubs in Wimbledon (near to Wimbledon station)? The requirement is for somewhere quiet for a group of about 10-12 people to be able to have a conversation (not a place with loud music or where you can't hear yourself think). It would be a normal weekday, not a weekend. Any recommendation very gratefully received. Thanks in advance :)

Some of the reviews said Prince of Wales gets loud, but perhaps that's only at weekends?

The Alexandra is a short way up towards the Village just before the hill - quite a few bars of differing character inside (plus a large roof terrace if/when the weather is good). There is music etc. on Fridays and weekends but that doesn't start until 10ish usually.

Yes, I was going to say the Alex - if it is now like it was 20 odd years ago there is nothing pretentious about it but it would be ideal for a group of 10 people to have a few pints of Youngs and a chat. I used to go there in the days that Wimbledon played at Plough Lane, however long ago that was!

Yes the Alexandra is good, three bars on ground floor and roof terrace. Next door almost is the Hand and Racket which isgood too. I have had group lunches/dinners there, they do have a raised area which you may be able to pre book. You can maybe pre book space in the Alexandra too. If you want to go one more stop along the line. Opposite Raynes Park Station is the Raynes park tavern which is also very good.

Thanks for the suggestions - much appreciated :)

Any suggestions for either a pub or restaurant (must be good value/inexpensive) within 5-10 minutes walk of either Fulham Broadway or West Brompton stations? :)

I don't think there are any near West Brompton Station now, although if you walk five mins up the road from there or take the District line, that will take you to Earls Court where there are a few pubs opposite the Station, (make sure that you go out of the Earls Court Road exit.) I don't know what these pubs are like as I have not been in them, eventhough I work near by.

I don't know about Fulham Broadway, but again, if you take the District line a few more stops to Putney Bridge, there is a pub there called the 8 Bells, 89 Fulham High St London, SW6 3JS. 020 7736 6307.

It is not that large, but does very good food indeed and the prices are fair.
I do suggest that you call them before you go, just to check up what times they serve food. It's home made and really very good indeed. I am going there to meet a mate next week infact all being well.

Come out of the underground station, turn right, follow the road round to the left, then about 100 yards there is a small cross roads, go left again and the pub is on your left.

Enjoy.

Last time I went to Earls Court for a pub I found them all exceptionally expensive.

There is a 'spoons on top of Fulham Broadway LUL, pretty decent one as they go in my experience (just avoid it pre-football)

I Agree with "Blindtraveller" above remark about the Raynes Park Tavern.

My mate did not know the Fulham Mitre that you mentioned, but after looking at the link to that one, I think I will have to go there and try it. :D
