Wimbledon... the chance for the xenophobic BBC to ignore better-known overseas tennis players in the first few days of the tournament, where with the collusion of the tournament organisers, little-known male and female British tennis nonentities can be televised in matches on the better Wimbledon courts that they do not deserve to be on. Courts 15 and upwards are good enough for these players and they should never be seen on television at the cost of depriving the BBC viewership of watching much higher quality players.
This is a grand-slam tennis tournament, not a local British village tennis tournament..
But you're decrying the very essence of being British, Wimbledon is the home of tennis and all the foreign players and commentators agree, Wembley is the home of football and all the foreign players and commentators agree, Lords is the home of cricket and all the foreign players and commentators agree, Tinsley Green is the home of marbles and blah blah, you get the idea
I personally feel quite embarrassed at the way we try to pretend this country is a world leader still, but I guess it's difficult to admit, as a nation, that we're actually pretty 3rd rate
It would be interesting to know how much the Australian, French and American commentators bluster about their prowess and whether they also display any of our cute xenophobic tendencies
Meanwhile Mr Murray appears to have perked up under his new coach, but perhaps that's a little personal ......
