Just pondering some of the recent breakdowns on the Manchester airport line. Do manchester TPE crews sign the route south of the airport to Wilmslow as a diversionary route?

Cross Country run a daily service via Wilmslow/Crewe and they also run sometimes via the Airport avoider too I believe.
Virgin also sign the Airport line; the 1940 London to Manchester usually goes this way.
I just wondered if they sign to Crewe incase of major disruption to the Airport.

Not sometimes, but daily on weekdays. One early morning southbound and one late evening northbound iirc.

Just looked it up - there's a morning service northbound to Manchester Piccadilly via Wilmslow and an afternoon Bournemouth goes that way too. Which has changed since I used to work there, we only used to have an evening service heading to Manchester and nothing southbound.
Of course, the Wilmslow line is a useful diversion for Virgin and XC if anything happens on the Macclesfield line.
IIRC ATW sign both Manchester - Crewe routes too
They do, and I believe they also sign Stockport-Stoke-Crewe for diversionary purposes
