The plot this year is to move the crossover north of Cemetery Lane bridge to a place nearer Platforms 1 & 2 so that loco hauled trains can have a simpler run round. This, in turn, gives more siding accommodation at the north end of the Yard and allows new trackwork to be developed for an enlarged Maintenance Facility. The process will also see all the original track to be renewed and we believe that some of this dates from the turn of the last century. All in all it will allow some time in the future for a dedicated steam loco servicing area as the present layout presents an uneasy relationship between diesel and steam. We also have to be mindful that we have a significant testing business - mytesttrack.com - that is a vital component of our revenue mix and we must proceed at a pace that allows this to continue.
