Will the technology take over train driver job?

I believe that will be happen, just the matter of time.

Now you always see inventors keep trying that on the road which need more accuracy than on the rail. My concern being too simple being an outsider of the industry.

Just curious how you guys think. Thanks

Yes it will happen but not for a long time.

There is already technology which can drive trains, such as on the DLR, however we still have human supervision with some kind of driver on board in case of system failure or emergency.

My view is that on most services "guard only operation" a la DLR is the most likely scenario.

If you want to travel on a driverless train in the UK, get yourself to the Docklands. You probably won't see a driverless train on National Rail for several decades (any trains driven by technology e.g. Crossrail through the central core, will still have a driver present).
