Will SWR nationalisation delay Trainee Driver jobs?

Hi. Just here for some quick insight regarding this:

South Western Railway set to be first train operator nationalised by Labour

Next companies to return to public control will be c2c and Greater Anglia under UK government plans

I currently have an application in for a Trainee Driver and wanted to know if anyone knows how that’s likely to affect it. For example will SWR give up on training new drivers because they know they’ll be nationalised in May? Or is it likely to speed up the process.

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know SWR recruitment plans but in my experience moving from private to DfT control had no effect on the day to day business but I wouldn't expect it speed the process up.

I can't see how nationalising will affect the business day to day, plenty of other TOCs have been nationalised and I didn't see a dip in their recruitment

There’s quite an extensive group of drivers who will be looking to retire in the not too distant future so I wouldn’t worry about any changes to recruiting of trainee drivers. Fingers crossed you won’t have to wait too long until things move forward for you.
