Summer 2012 was the wettest in a century, however there were periods of warmer weather, but nothing significant.

It changes four times a day, so take it with a pinch of salt.

I seem to recall that summer 2013 would be the hottest on record? I do think we are well overdue a good long hot summer. Other european countries seem to get much better summers almost guranteed sunshine!

Still, if that's true perhaps it's time for an absolute maximum limit on working temperature to be created.

I would not want a 2003 type of summer that was too hot! But something like 23-27 degrees is fine for me! Last summer the temp in Newcastle was barely above 19c!

I note that the Met Office today has upgraded its heatwave warning for London and the South-East to Level 3 heat-healthwatch criteria for the very young and the very old plus those with medical problems aggravated by the heatwave.

It's nice to be proved right for a second year running.

I've always said the summer depends on how the weather was in March - a nice March usually means a dismal summer, we had a cracking March last year and the wettest summer for a century; March this year couldn't have been worse and it's the best summer (so far) for a good few years.

Sky had a "heatwave expert" on, this was his advice:

Stay out of the sun.
Don't wear too many heavy clothes.
Use a fan.
Open all the windows !

If you need to be told the first 3 then you shouldn't be allowed out without supervision.

The window one though is totally wrong, on a very hot day especially if the sun is directly on windows they should be shut and blinds/curtains drawn till it's cooler.

We're well used to having a nanny state but at least it could give the correct information.

The phrase "heatwave expert" rather puts me in mind of the "minister for drought " who shortly after appointment in the 70‘s had to become the "minister for floods".

In the "movable feast" that seems to be the preserve of the BBC weather forecasting team, the forecast for the "prayed-for" North-West rainfall on their media now appears to have moved from Sunday overnight to Tuesday.

Interesting to see the that the west coast of Scotland has been registering very high temperatures...how does this affect the dreaded "midge" population...

Am in Kent at the mo, and when they said there was a risk of violent thunderstorms, they weren‘t kidding were they !

Twelve different huge delays reported on National Rail Enquiries, ranging from between Newcastle and Berwick to Manchester Piccadilly and Truro to Penzance makes me wonder if the thunderstorms were worse than everyone predicted. Seems like it didn't just wake me up, it woke everyone in East Hertfordshire up!

Here in the most deepest rural part of Cheshire East, after the early morning thunderstorms, the air is pleasantly breathable once again and the smell of the crops can be enjoyed during a stroll down the narrow lanes....and the pollen count has plummeted...

You're not. I like it. Last night, for example, I did 2½ hours work in my attic study at 32.8°C with the window closed. Quite comfortable.

It's more about the humidity. Today is a lot cooler but quite horrible thanks to the intermittent rain.

But the best thing I ever bought was a portable air conditioner. Not cheap to run but, my goodness, has it been comfortable in the bedroom over the last week or two.
