Assuming that trains between Oxford and Bletchley run as planned from May 2025, so that the LNWR's proud claim to serve Oxford, still visible on one of the Euston gatehouses, becomes once more true, will tickets Oxford to London Terminals be valid via Bletchley?

A quick look at a map should make it fairly apparent that any of the existing tickets are unlikely to be valid between Oxford and London via Bletchley.

There still aren't sensible fares from Didcot to places on the Chiltern line like High Wycombe following the opening of the Bicester link.

I’d very much doubt it

Maybe try it out during a period of disruption?

Looking at the timetables, unfortunately most of the connections are around 20 minutes at Bletchley. Otherwise a 35 minute train to Bletchley, followed by a 36 minute train to Oxford would actually beat some Chiltern Trains with an up to 9 minute connection at Bletchley.

I would think some other potential journeys, like Hemel or Watford to Bicester/Oxford - would be via Bletchley.

Curious on if Marston would play a part, e.g. St Albans or Luton to Bicester. The former could route via Watford, I suppose. But doubtful in practice.

I wonder if Paddington / Waterloo – Reading – Oxford would be a valid route for London to Winslow; I'd guess that via Bletchley and maybe one allowing Marylebone as far as Bicester Village would be cheaper if so. Euston – Bletchley – Winslow's around thirty miles shorter than Paddington – Oxford – Winslow.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were three routes priced for London - Winslow:
  • via Bletchley - Priced by WMT
  • via High Wycombe - Priced by Chiltern, assumed interchange point being Bicester Village
  • via Oxford/Any Permitted - Priced by GWR

With operators moving to OLR one by one, operator specific tickets are something we will probably see less and less of, unless one route and not the other is IC (e.g. London to Crewe on Avanti vs WMR). If GWR is faster and classed as the IC you might have a GWR and a WMT/Chiltern only and an any permitted, or just one any permitted for Winslow - London Terminals.

While TOC specific tickets are likely to go away, in order to avoid creating anomalies I think geographical routed ones are not unlikely. I'd agree that those three are probably the ones that make sense (with whichever of the three is the most expensive being the Any Permitted).

Would the Winslow-London "Any Permitted" ticket be one of the broadest and most flexible season tickets in the South East?

(If valid to Euston, Marylebone, Paddington, & Waterloo.)
