Im thinking of doing a 7 day 1st class ALR, in September,, and looking at LNER and Avanti , it seems the First Class, complimentary offering isn’t up to pre Covid standards, at the moment. LNER, seem to have decent service again, incl breakfast, but this only the Dine menu trains, which are only few Northbound, and bit better southbound, and its prepared by chefs, so overall be the best, so will the level of services offering Dine go up in next few months, or will it stay the same? Avanti seem to have good breakfast offering and quite decent looking menu, but now its squashed into coach K, so looks like reservations be needed to guarantee seat in 1st class, so how busy generally is 1st class on Avanti?.
When done 1st class 7 day ALR, a major part as been the at seat service, of complimentary food, which, while dont treat as an all day, all u can eat buffet, its nice to have food to fill up with all day, So apart from LNER and Avanti, mentioned above, of the major operators, which ones are back to pre Covid catering, and which, to avoid, as offering no catering at all or very limited? Im not using Southern or South Western Railway, or other local operators, any advice or feedback be good, just looking for general consensus on wether 1st class 7 day ALR worth doing in next 6 months or so?.
