After the level of debate on the student riots thread, which I found to be suprising, I was wondering what are the boards views on Assange and WikiLeaks?
It is my personal opinion that the release of the cables, as well as the war logs, were in the public interest, and that modern 'democratic' governments need an independent media to hold them to account if they fail to do so themselves. The people persecuting Assange and calling for his head fail to do so for the people who have committed the crimes etc in the first place. It seems to me to be unjust to champion the freedom of speech and lack of censorship, then go and pressure corporations to severe links and limit the actions of the organisation, then persecute Assange and try and censure the contents.
Thoughts?
