Following my beloved Wigan around again, this time, an away trip to Hull.

It's Saturday 3rd October 2009 and a 1500 kick off (need to be in the station a good deal beforehand) and looking for any train back after 1730-1800ish.

Thus far I see splitting at Doncaster. I'm sure someone can help further.

Much love :)

I would get TPE advance singles each way. On the www.nationalexpresseastcoast.co.uk input Liverpool-Hull, and you may need to select 'show slower services' on the left hand side, then tick TPE only. Coming back, there is a direct 18:03 Hull-Lime St.

Having looked further, it seems that Selby-Micklefield is shut, maybe that is why? Try splitting the tickets at combinations of Manchester, Huddersfield and Leeds. If you wish to avoid the bus, try advance Liverpool-Doncaster, then a day return from there.

A very useful ticket is Ashton to Donkeycaster.

It is priced at only £9.25 CDR / £11.15 SVR (with YP), this is valid via Manchester, Stockport & Sheffield, and it is also valid via Stalybridge and Leeds.

At £9.25 it is cheaper than Manchester-Sheffield, so it really is a bargain! You can also get it to Thorne Stations for the same price.

Unfortunately Donny-Hull is overpriced, at £11.80 SDR with no CDR available, however you can get a Glasshoughton to Hull Route Not Leeds CDR for only £6.40, the only sensible route avoiding Leeds would be via Donny ;) If you don't want to do that, Thorne Stations to Hull is £9.45 SDR if you don't mind getting stoppers.

LIV-MAN is £6.55.

So you're looking at 6.55 + 9.25 + 6.40 = £22.20 which compares favourably to the through fare of £36.10.
