On Earth, or any other planetary body, would anyone want to take a picture of a Disastro.

I must have had 6 or 7 people taking pictures today in different locations

Soton - Wloo (10 car 444)

Wloo - Pompey via Eastleigh (12 car 450)

*Desiro, I can see an arguement brewing already :(

I love em simple as that, down in the south west for me its not like there would be nothing to phot otherwise!

Good thing with Desiros is if the driver gives you a real glare from the cab - "Take a photo and I'll break yer neck!", you can take one of the back - unlike 159s, 170s etc. where the guard hangs out in the cab and glares at you that way.

Surprised you can see them. They usually have the sun blind right down almost like a tank viewing slot.

I like to let as much light as possible into the gloomy cabs

I have two theories:

1) They were bored whilst waiting for today's Bardon 66 run (like me - see below).
2) They thought they saw a gorilla driving a train and wanted a shot of it. *runs away from Kris*

Admittedly myself, Dad and one of his mates were outside their work (down side industrial estate between Farnborough and Fleet) at around 17:30pm today waiting for the Bardon 66, and I did indeed shoot a few Desiros whilst waiting. Not you was it? Would explain why my memory card become unreadable and the pictures lost (and no - that's not another insult. It's the truth, hence why I've not uploaded a shot :( ;)).

Nope - called in at Farnborough at about 12.40ish with a 12 car 450 to the Harbour.

I have the joys of one of these carts on Sunday from Soton to Wareham and then on Monday from Wareham to Waterloo. The joys. I'm reliably informed they're not as good as our 350s up north.

1602 arrival at Wareham on the Sunday, 1932 from Wareham on the Monday - to get the wonderful 2240 EBW Pendolino blip, ETA in Wolves - 0142 :(

Whats bad about taking pictures of desiros? I enjoy taking thousands of pics/video of desiros on the windsor lines ,whats wrong with it I dont mind 450s or 444s seem to brighten some of the things that are gurbby around the network e.g worn out 458s thats just horrible , dont get me started on some of the 159/0 and few 158s about , and as much as I hate to say it un-refurb 455s *some* of them , SWT really let me down...:shaking:

450s and 444s have exactly the same traction packages, and exactly the same motors, 450s accelerate faster.

Don't dismiss it so quickly, I've had some serious glares from some drivers, one even waved his arm madly and ducked down to stop his face getting in a photo.

Once a Southern 455 driver shouted at me, as I was setting up for the Buffer Puffer 4.1 at Clapham. What he said was a bit incomprehensible - it was either "Why'd you take a photo of me?" or "Go on take a photo of me!". Latter seems likely as the camera was in the opposite direction to him.

450s have better accelleration as they have less weight to lug around (duh).

444s and 450s have exactly the same numbers of powered axles... hence 450s have better acceleration.

350s work with 25kV of power though...

You've failed to take into account the weight of each train into Acceleration.

Class 450
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]170 tonnes / 4 (Coaches) = 42.4t each

Class 444
227 Tones / 5 Coaches = 45.4t each

So in theory you are right with Class 450s have better acceleration.

Still not as fast as they could be because they are de-tuned until all the new substations are in.

Even then they may not be fully tuned up in case the passengers go flying during acceleration.

Found a quick way of getting away today. As you hear the contacts move when the guard is closing the doors -

Move direction switch to forward

Move Power/Brake handle to off

Soon as he/she gets interlock - the brake drops to 50%

When you get the bells - whack it open and repeat the the bells as it pulls away.

Nearly as fast as a Pig then.
