Why was Llanrwst station built?

I'm just intrigued to know the reasons why there are two stations in Llanrwst considering it is such a small town and there was already a station in the town (albeit to the north). Was it done in the time before endless studies, reports, inquiries, consultant fees, great crested newts and vast price tags?

The original station called Llanwrst was opened as far back as 1863 and was the station to serve the town until a new station, nearer to the town centre and the bus terminus at Watling Street, was opened in 1989. That original station is now called North Llanwrst and the newer station was named Llanwrst.

Just to add on to what Paul said, the reason the original station (now North Llanrwst) remains is because it's the passing point on the single line.

This is back in the days where an area manager could still get things like this done if they wanted using resources already at their disposal.
A prefab concrete platform and a bus shelter - probably almost all fabricated from materials that were sitting in a storage yard somewhere nearby.
With design work from engineers already on the payroll - the cost was probably near negligible.
