Why so crowded on the London Buses X26 at 5am?

If I had it my way, that triaxle bus which pootled around a high profile but stop-start Central London route with high passenger turnover would have been put on the busiest X26 return trip!

Or I hear that there are a few electric E200s with large standing areas and a few seats at the back no longer being used on central London routes which could be available!

I don’t mean to state the obvious here, but you should be grateful it was full and busy. Buses and coaches aren’t like trains. If a service is empty on a regular basis it’s scrapped. Not funded by the taxpayer to keep rubbing despite carrying fresh air like trains are.

Taxis are really expensive
And that is really going to put people off travelling to the UK? Hyperbole. Would UK people travelling abroad rely on using service buses to reach airports at 3am in the morning [or at any other time for that matter]? Not much I would think!

I absolutely use public transport to reach airports in other countries, yes. Why would I not?

While London taxis tend to be a lot better due to the strict regulation, in many other countries (and outside London) the taxi trade is one of the most disreputable ones going. Why would I entrust a time-critical journey to them?

Ah, but you have changed 'service bus' to 'public transport' . Dedicated airport services, railways, trams - but how many by ordinary service buses? Not many. You and I as enthusiasts, but the bulk of travellers......

Well, what I'd do if I booked a hotel right next to an airport is walk there.

Oh.

But if you've paid for a hotel and holiday etc, can't you afford a few quid for a taxi?
Indeed wouldn't airport hotels have some sort of shuttle arrangement anyway, if they're selling themselves as being really convenient for the airport? In the same way that airport long term carparks have shuttle buses to the terminal.

X26 is a victim of its own success. For a while I was using it regularly and doing high mileages on it and what it clearly needs is both a frequency increase and some try axle vehicles
