Although SDO is still technically operational on ScotRail 170s it is not mandated for use (since the incident at Bishopbriggs many years ago). Therefore, as mentioned above, SDO is not a factor here. When we first worked the unrefurbished ex GWR HSTs we were not allowed to use the working SDO either.

Trains in multiple with no gangway connection can, and do, stop at short platforms e.g. Springfield. In those cases single door working from a set local door is instigated.

Ordinarily 255 & 213m platforms but aware large proportion cordoned off at present for works.
Surely in this case, passengers for D&B should be told to be in front set.

On arrival, guard opens their local door at front of rear set.
Heads to front unit.
If front set is the 158, let passengers out the back door on the butterfly egress.
If front set is the 170, climb in, walk up, key in at door with panel and let passengers out the local door.
Shut that door, key off, go back to rear unit, buzz buzz.

Maybe an extra minute, allowing regular passengers not to be left without a train.

On GWR it even happens with mixed fleet types, have seen 5car mixed 165 and 166 formations (not gangwayed between units) call at Avoncliffe.

Guard simply changes units to front unit having walked through rear unit calling out and advising passengers at station before, then changes unit again at following station.

No idea why GWR have managed to approve and use process, but Scotrail staff haven't managed to.

Having established the reason why the train can't stop at Dunkeld we will bring the discussion to a close.

If anyone has suggestions as to what Scotrail could do then they are of course welcome to start a new thread in the Speculative Ideas section. :)
