Why is this train not being advertised?

Newcastle v Sunderland game today.

Appears to have been an additional direct train added at late notice but isn’t published anywhere.

Maybe the game ticket holders were told by email, as part of a larger plan.

Northumbria Police urged Sunderland fans travelling by train to get to Newcastle Central Station by 10:15 so they could be escorted by the force to the stadium.

Ch Supt Mark Hall said: "Our role – and that of our wider partners – is to help ensure that all those in attendance are able to enjoy the experience safely and disruption for other members of the public is kept to a minimum."

Yes - away fans police escort to the ground leaving Central at 1015 so Sunderland station would have been packed with fans anyway, and I'm pretty sure no regular travellers would have wanted to use it!

There are two Metros running fast from Sunderland to Newcastle as well.

There are two Metros running fast from Sunderland to Newcastle as well.

I get that, however, the only advertised service was the 09:18 from Middlesbrough, which even on a regular match day is pretty much impossible to get on anywhere past Hartlepool.

A lot of regulars would have know this and won’t have risked getting the train as there would have been a strong potential they wouldn’t have been able to board.

Had there been communication about this additional ‘football special’ more people including myself would have used it.

Having witnessed said service in operation today, getting more people to use it was certainly the last of anyone's worries. Packed to the rafters both ways.
