I'm travelling on the 1613 Lumo from Edinburgh to Stevenage and as we got held back at York thought I'd just check on RTT at Stevenage with the connection back to Norwich, and found out that the 1842 Brighton to Cambridge has been cancelled due to "planning error" never heard that one before, so instead of getting home to Norwich at 2235 I'll now get back at 2313 --- great. This railway is fast becoming a mess.

Usually means a staff rostering issue

Be aware Elton John is playing Carrow Road tonight. Hope you won’t want a cab.

@tel - With any hope, this will also mean that there’s a good number of Hackney Carriages about. If they’re not on the station rank, try the one next to the Chinese restaurant. Not sure what time Elton John egress is.

If you refer to National Rail Enquiries, the train is cancelled due to a shortage of train crew:

You may need hope, demand was far greater than supply at 18.00. EJ kicks out around 22.45 - 23.00, judging by the changes GA and EM have done to the timetable. Unusually East Mids are running an additional to Ely.

I guess it doesn’t help the present frustration, but you will be entitled to claim delay repay compensation from Govia Thameslink. (https://www.thameslinkrailway.com/help-and-support/journey-problems/delay-repay)
Ahh thanks will do as well.

I'm OK only 15 mins walk from the station to home.

Make sure to claim for your full journey (e.g. Edinburgh to Norwich), including all tickets for the journey.
Ahh really thought you could only claim for the journey that caused the delay. Well thanks for that info I will try anyway Thameslink caused the mess so they came pay for it. Thanks for all the info.

Apologised ? no wasn't even mentioned at Stevenage that the train had been cancelled. Claim sent in.
The thread appears to have drifted into the realms of Elton John lyrical references - I guess that’s the Circle of Life.

I’m glad you (seemingly) got home safely albeit delayed, hopefully your next journey is uneventful.

Just as well you weren't waiting for a cab. I would have said 'I think it's gonna be a long, long time'

Have Thameslink apologised or is it a case of Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word.

They just said ‘This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore’ (apparently an EJ single that made no.24 in the UK chart in 2002 according to wiki).

We may be running out of Elton John related songs now …….

I wouldn’t say 40 minutes is a “mess” given the length of the journey, and you’re entitled to delay repay too. Sometimes things don’t always go to plan

TI is indeed a Traincrew Rostering Error - eg no driver on the day. Which strictly speaking isn’t a Planning Error as Rosters aren’t part of Train Planning - but that’s how RTT displays it anyway.
