Why hasn't the Magic Circle been hacked yet?

In an era where Wikileaks, the Clinton e-mails, many secret governmental information and countless credit card and online account details have been accessed, you'd have thought someone would have thought to want to figure out how magical illusions are done.

What do you think?

Perhaps they are wise enough not to keep secret material in a form that can be hacked. If only other organisations and individuals were as sensible.

Joanna Southcott's box may be in jeopardy, unless the bishops get there first. I suspect you may have to be fairly long in the tooth to understand the allusion, as well as a reader of a quality daily newspaper, but I'm sure some details are available on the web.

It is hardly MI6 or the CIA. I doubt there is anything really worth finding or what any hacker did find would be of newsworthy interest. In any event you can find out all about their "magic" tricks by looking on the internet.

They probably don't have their entire database of secrets connected anywhere to the Internet. If there is no physical connection, then there is no means of access for any hacker. This simple thing appears to completely defeat just about every other organisation; there is an obsession out there to connect everything to the web and thus leave it accessible. Once connected, all and every firewall, access protocol, security measure becomes a challenge to be beaten.

It wont be long before some bright spark decides that trains or signalling systems need a web connection; one that is highly secured with 256 bit encryption etc., of course. For software updates; for in-cab signalling, whatever. But it has to be connected to the internet (for some reason). And it won't be long afterwards that the system is hacked and something happens that we really don't want......

Wasn't it hacked some years ago on a mid Sunday evening TV show called "Breaking The Magician's Code" where the guy did all the tricks and then showed how he did them. He wore a mask through all of the tricks but removed it on the last episode and explained his life story - I do believe he got thrown out of the Magician's Circle of America for quite some years afterwards

You also have the likes of Penn & Teller how happily show people how certain tricks are performed and happily acknowledge that magic is fictional. For me the real genius of magic is to pull off the tricks thousands of times for years on end without either making a mistake or having people realise how it's done. The aforementioned duo have performed the Magic Bullet trick for decades and I don't think anyone bar those in the know are certain how that's done.

To break 256bit AES encryption, even if you used all of the computing power on the planet, would take significantly longer than the age of the universe. Considering that the sun will have absorbed the earth before then, I feel the midland mainline hasn't got much to worry about..

I liked a show of theirs some years ago where they did a trick, explained how it was done and then did it again, but in such a way that they couldn't possibly have done it the way they explained.

Plus surely anyone who tried would be called up to the stage and would magically disappear.

As Paul Daniels has said who cares that it is fictional, the magic is not knowing how it is done and that should never be revealed.

They do the cups and balls trick with clear cups and describe the movements as as it goes along, however some of the slight of hand you can (partially!) see being done is still incredible. I agree though, it's an odd combination of telling enough to satisfy the audience but at the same time concealing enough to still confuse them.

The one I recall involved things being moved under a floor. They redid the trick showing someone moving under a glass floor. Then again with the glass floor but no-one moving under it.

On the other hand, the best magic tricks IMHO are those which you can work out how they've done it, but it doesn't matter because the magician was entertaining while doing it.

Penn & Teller (well, Penn) said much the same thing when Paul Daniels' son appeared on their Fool Us show. They knew exactly how the trick was done, but they didn't care because it was an honour having them on the show.
