If I was you I would give up 'betting' because you're likely to lose a lot of money! I see that you're rather passionate about trains, but perhaps need to gain a sense of perspective of events, as you're effectively constructing your opinion on what amounts to a snapshot of events.
So this brings me onto the noise. I'm not unaccustomed to it and have been here nearly twelve years. Engineering works happen frequently and I tolerate them.
This train station has one train each way each hour, so is hardly King's Cross. In fact it's so important, they closed the ticket office two years ago...
Whereas I accept work is essential, I feel that it needs to be balanced as opposed to contractors hiding behind legislation to further their own financial interests, which is effectively what is happening here. I'm not adverse to late hours working, but hammer-drilling from 23:00 - 04:00 and 07:00-11:00 goes one step too far. By the way, the trains are running partially during this period.
This work has been going on over three weeks by the contractor Osborne. Whilst they are saving money, by not canceling trains I have lost close to £1500 due to lost business. There's no way I can travel into London and do a days work after two hours sleep. My family is knackered, so are many of my neighbours.
A bus service for the noisiest of work would in fact be a good compromise (off-peak of course), instead of completely punishing the community. A bus service would run six miles of fairly quiet road, not a major inconvenience for a couple of hours a day. It' a matter of budget... 'cui bono'... certainly not the neighbourhood.
By the way, this work is to drainage on the platform, Sadly, we never receive notification of work and the council haven't either. This basically omits the opportunity for the local council and community to raise concerns and have any input.
Just big business doing what it wants... a little like the banks I guess.
It's one of those things, never an issue until it affects you...
