I'd be interested to find out why are some National Express services registered whilst others aren't?

Does it solely depend on whether NX can claim BSOG for a service or are there other advantages/disadvantages to registering or not registering a service?

In addition I'd be intetested to find out are concessionary passes valid on any National Express services? Am guessing you couldn't use one to go all the way from say Glasgow to London but what about on a local journey such as Bristol to Bath or Cardiff-Newport?

In ENGLAND The senior bus pass (ENTCS) can only used on buses services that are registered as local bus routes (includes some X.. numbered routes) Nat Express services are not registered as local bus routes so ENTCS passes cannot be used on them. Some councils (North Yorkshire County Council) have deemed some bus services (particularly summer sunday services as Tourist bus services so ENTCS passes cannot be used on services originating in North Yorkshire. The situation in Scotland is different as their Senior bus passes can be used on all bus services within Scotland including Citylink and Mega bus.

You cant use ENCTs passes on the coaches .You have to pre book only and get a senior discount. The reason they gave when they stopped accepting passes was because it was hard trying to get paid .

NatEx services are registered if they have stops within 15 miles eg services through Manchester calling at the Airport, Oldham, Ordsall etc I don't know if they have an exemption from ENCTS due to the nature of the services and pass holders having alternative s running far more frequently. Without knowing the details the North Yorkshire arrangement sounds a bit questionable especially if they are imposing on neighbouring authority s

Depends on which services. Excursions are exempt from ENCTS. NYCC have, I believe, only applied this to DalesBus and MoorsBus. And rightly so: ENCTS shouldn't be spent on people having a jolly out in the Dales.

As for the OP, I think NX have moved away from registering as local bus services for this reason. They used to register more, e.g. Newcastle-Edinburgh via Jedburgh. I think it only happens now where they have to.

Seem to remember Manchester-Sheffield part of the NEX 350 allowing local tickets & passes as that was the only service that stopped at a couple of places between Hollingworth & Sheffield.

That partly down to the fact, Citylink is the only bus in village... especial up in the highlands. I dont agree with the Scottish passes allowed to be used on Gold service with free tea and food....
