@Gordon. Good question! It's generally speaking normally down to the forum's moderators/admin staff. If, for example, separate threads are created for what is essentially the same topic, then the 'duplicates' will tend to get closed down. In addition, threads which haven't seen any new posts added for a reasonable period of time, tend to get closed down also. (N.B. This may well be an automatic process). If you wish to have a specific (closed) thread 're-opened', so that you can perhaps add a new post to it, believe you can request this by clicking on the 'Report' link in the relevant thread and then reporting the issue to one of the admin staff.
This one?One of the (merger Inter rail - Eurail) was only started on Friday!

Eurailpass becomes Interrail from 9 September 2026
I have just received an email re the above. Unnecessary and silly change dreamt up by bureaucrats, although it probably reduces the amount of work website and app maintainers have to undertake. The combining of the two opens the opportunity for Interrail holders based in the UK or Europe to...www.railforums.co.uk
While threads can be locked by moderators, quite often they are automatically locked if they've been inactive for a while. As others have suggested, you can ask for a thread to be reopened by using the report function.Question is all in the title.
I only look at this forum around once a week.
