Why are Chiltern 165s going to Doncaster?

165019 is currently on its way back from Doncaster, has it been refurbished there? That's what I guessed initially however it hasn't been there for very long...

165010 ran as 5Q23 Ex Banbury earlier.

Having just seen it on the railcam at Banbury, I don't think it has been refurbished like I initially thought.
Still looks to be the same red/blue in there.

I Understand from a GWR newsletter that the internal refurbishment of the Turbos has been signed off with work due to start imminently. This is great news because the 166s are a disgrace internally and possibly the shabbiest trains on the network. Most of the tables are covered in unsightly...

Nice to see that Chiltern 165 units are finally being refurbished.

Getting somewhat tatty.

Whilst Chiltern may of spent money on infrastructure, they forgot to spend money on the on board experience for their fleet.

Whilst Chiltern may of spent money on infrastructure, they forgot to spend money on the on board experience for their fleet.

It's more of a refresh in all honesty, new seat covers, flooring and LED lighting AFAIK. No plug sockets as it would require the fitment of a new alternator. It was supposed to start in February but I'm not aware of it having started yet...

Its been sat in Aylesbury Depot since April last year, I assume it's a parts donor like 165025 was for a few years.
