FGW Refurbs are very good. They actually spent a lot of money on making the train look almost new, the buffets are outstanding, great first and standard class, I really can't find anything to complain about.

People moaning about lack of tables. I agree, ideally there should be more, however capacity is an issue here, more tables = less seats, and if we kept the same number of tables, there would be a lot of people unable to get a seat. People getting seats always has to take priority. I would much rather not be sure of getting a table, than not be sure if I could get on and standing all the way to Penzance.

You could look at the National Express EA MK3's, which have been refurbed, to see how bad it can be, but to call these refurbs would be bordering on fraud as all they really have is colour changes.

Didn't NXEC put some kind of bench type seat (like in SET 376's) in the carriges on the Norwich services. Can't remember if they are mk2 or mk3. I think they put them in for the disabled passengers. I may be wrong just something i'm sure i read somewhere.

NXEC refurbed mk3s are very good for passenger ambience, have plenty of tables, plenty of legroom, good views out of the windows and are generally nice to be on.

FGW's standard class is cramped, sardine-tin seating, and completely the wrong configuration for long distance journeys. TBH I always feel MORE cramped on a half-full FGW train than on a full NXEC one.

The answer is to have longer trains on Great Western services, rather than completely bin passenger comfort.

I have no objections to FGW's HSTs. The tables can comfortably fit laptops and the legroom is the best out of any airline seating I've ever had (except priority seats).
