I was on the 16:07 Avanti (Edinburgh service) from Birmingham New Street today, which arrived at Wigan North Western nine minutes late, at 17:45 instead of 17:36. I would still have made the 17:52 Southport train from Wallgate, but that too was delayed and I ended up arriving at my destination 20 minutes late at 18:50 instead of 18:30. There were multiple announcements on the Northern about delay repay so they're obviously expecting claims.
My ticket was a through Advance from Hereford to Southport, all on one paper ticket, so worth putting a 15-29 minutes claim in. I'm not sure how they calculate the minimum connection time when there's a walk between two stations, so if I claim from Northern might they refer it to Avanti, even though I was on the platform at Wallgate in time for the 17:52, had it arrived as timetabled?
