On monday morning (12 Feb around 0729) a small yellow train passed through Prestonpans station and stopped in a siding east of the station.
What seemed unusual to me was that the train had bright white lights at the rear, I'm just wondering if that is normal or is something special about this sort of train?

... and test trains often have unusual lighting to assist in whatever they are testing.
Not to mention that pointing downwards laser light that measures ( rails ? ) in the middle of the train , for a passing train at speed looks like sparks coming up from under the carriage .
It’s been reported as such to signallers number of times.

And then you get to the NMT and the Electrification Monitoring Vehicle with their contactless overhead line measurement system, which gives off a beam of purple light up into the sky, and have appeared in various local rags as potential UFOs!

Not relevant in this particular case but white lights can also be shown on the rear if a) the unit is parked against a bufferstop with a white light (markers), or b) during a wrong direction movement to rescue a failed train (headlamp).
