Whitby town station

I recently came across this photo, photographer unknown.
Date unknown, but I would guess at winter 1947 which I believe was a particularly cold and snowy winter.
Note the bookstall etc by the side of the portico. I would guess it was rather cold working there.
It must be remembered that prior to 1958 Whitby town has four routes out ( admittedly three of them would involve a reversal or a change en route.)

If you really want to dig in to this, that roofless building in Windsor Terrave might provide a date when it became roofless or was demolished. A look at large scale maps doesn’t help and the library, which is roughly on the site, looks like a 1960s build.

Cars all look possible for 1947. The one in the foreground is surely pre-war. Can anyone have a go at identifying which marques are featured?

More generally, is there enough snow here for 1947? It was by all accounts a spectacularly harsh winter. The Whitby Gazette tells that the sea froze and the town was cut off for eight weeks. Brrrr!

The car behind the piled snow could be a Standard Flying 12 or 14.

1947 is certainly possible. The "Whitby Town Station" sign had "British Railways" added on either side of it after nationalisation in 1948, and those additions are absent in the photo.
Accounts of the Whitby area in the winter of 1947 mention sledges being used to transport goods and people; the horses are pulling a sledge, although I doubt this was unique to that particular winter.
