I've got a choice of trains, which one is the most likely to have seats in 1st:

0810 - 0828
0821 - 0837
0825 - 0841

I could possibly go on these if I can start work later:

0827 - 0845
0829 - 0847
0833 - 0852

With the small gaps between services I'd say they're all as likely, or unlikely, as each other.

0810 doesn't have FC as it's an ex-Tattenham/Caterham train.

The rest I imagine would be much of a muchness, though I wouldn't be optimistic about getting a seat on any of them, given the time of day and the fact they will have all come from relatively afar.

Ah OK :(

How busy would the Overground be from West Croydon - Whitechapel and tube to Monument?

0810 as already mentioned is ex-Tattenham/Caterham
0821 is ex-Tonbridge/Gatwick class 2 train. I do not know how long this train will be (8 cars?) and what the FC patronage is likely to be.
0825 is ex-Brighton and is the only Brighton fast to London Bridge at that time! I reckon it will be well patronised, and I reckon quite a few people from places along the route will have FC tickets. Again I do not know how long this train is either.
0827 is from Bognor.
0829 is from East Grinstead
0833 is from Eastbourne

I don't know which is likely to be busiest, which has a higher proportion of FC passengers, or how long each train is.

I'd go for the East Grinstead one myself, but the only problem you may find is that most longer distance Southern services i.e. the ones that run fast to London from Croydon generally run to Victoria off peak, and quite considerably in the peaks also (Your Brightons/Portsmouths/East Grinstead in this case) so the few London Bridge services there are may well be pretty packed.

Thanks for taking the time to look all the info up Yorkie :)

Do you think it would be worth going instead to Victoria and taking the tube to Monument?

It depends on your priorities. Is it very important that you get a seat for the whole of your journey? Is it important that you use a step-free route? If First Class accommodation important, or just a means to improve the likelihood of getting a seat? Is comfort more, or less, important than time?

The most important thing to me if I buy a FC ticket is to get a seat otherwise I would of wasted my money and I might as well get a standard ticket.

If your priority is a seat in First Class I'd go for a Victoria train, every five minutes roughly off peak alone. Mind you I have to say there arn't any food services or benefits aside from quiet and a slightly comfier seat (sorry if you already know that :P ) so I personally wouldn't bother with a first class for that length journey. Mind you if you have the cash spend it I say hahaha

The seats in first class on Class 377s are no better than those in standard class really, except for the units with 3+2 seating of course. They are also pretty limited in number, so will likely be full by East Croydon.

0827 - 0845
0829 - 0847
0833 - 0852

08:10 = 8 455
08:21 = 8 377
08:25 = 12 377
08:27 = 12 377
08:29 = 8 377
08:32 = 6 171
08:33 = 10 442

Thats interesting, where did you get that info from? Whats the previous 442 train before the 08:33?

Thanks very much :)

The 0759 does not show up on TFL but it does not on the Southern website!

The 0759 does not show up on TFL but it does ??not?? on the Southern website!

The same arrival times can cause trains to dissappear from the planners - on the NR version you have to tick the 'show slower trains' box to see the 0759 because the 0802 catches it up by London Bridge. I don't see a similar option on TfL's site, so I guess the train won't ever appear.
