I have a super offpeak return between East Croydon and Eastleigh (route not via London). I’m currently at Eastleigh and going home tomorrow. I’m aware of the engineering work and that there’s a bus replacement between Eastleigh and Basingstoke. However there’s a direct train from Southampton Central to Clapham (the Weymouth-London service, which is on diversion between Southampton and Woking). Would buying a single from Southampton to Eastleigh and using it in conjunction with the return cover me to travel from Southampton? Would it still qualify as a split ticket, given that the train wouldn’t call at Eastleigh?

It looks like the ticket from Eastleigh to East Croydon that you describe can be used via Southampton Central and the direct train to Clapham Junction looking at the GWR booking engine and specifying via Fareham.

An itinerary can also be found for this ticket via Southampton on the National Rail website so there should be no need for an extra ticket.
