Which ticket should you excess to ?

Say I have a High Wycombe - Newcastle + Not London Off Peak Return and I want to return via London ; am I allowed a choice of which ticket I can excess to i.e. the Off Peak ECML ticket or the Super Saver Off Peak ticket ? Excessing to the former would result in me paying a considerably larger excess fare in comparison to the SSR excess. Could I specify at the ticket office which type ticket I would like to be excessed to ? Or would I have no choice but to excess to the OPR ( via London) as my original ticket was an OPR ?

You should be excessed to the most appropriate ticket. If you are happy with the SSR restriction the excess is 1.95 ( 113.10 - 109.20 / 2 ) to do the rtn journey via London.

I'm told there is an example shown in the top secret manual that customers are not allowed to see that shows where a route specific Anytime can be excessed into an Off Peak valid via London. The ticket type doesn't have to be the same.

Thanks for the quick reply Yorkie. I would quite like to sample Grand Central on return so could I pick up their train at Eaglescliffe and use the excessed ( to Super Saver Return) ticket to KGX or would I have to catch the train at York. Perhaps my excessed ticket is not valid on GC ?

Newcastle-London is valid via Sunderland in the Routeing Guide. SSR is valid on arrivals into King's Cross after 1117, so it is not valid on the first southbound GC service. It is valid on all the others, and you could join at any station on the route.

Great stuff Yorkie. Just a shame that my itinerary for going up does not allow me to take GC. I have to drop off pressies in Brum enroute and will have to endure the cramped conditions on XC.
