Which sim next?

Ok, I thought I would post this here so I get a fairly neutral answer.

I have Trainz 2006.

I was thinking, should I move to Trainz 2009 or onto Railworks 2.- Any others aren't a possibility.

Trainz 2009
-My content can move with me
-FCT would be valid in both installations (if/when I bought one)
-More default content built in

Railworks 2
-Better graphics
-More realistic (in my opinion) building tools.

Could you help me decide.

Railworks 2.

It's way ahead of TRS2006.

It might have more content built in, but there's lots of top quality routes and trains available to download off the internet.

The Trainz route builder is more user friendly than that of RW2, but it's more realistic, and once you've got the basics you'll be fine.

I've just got TS12 (as it's only £25 at the moment) and I have to say the graphics are excellent.

Trainz without a doubt. You might be able to download some content to Railwaves, but it'll cost you an absolute bomb.

I have got Railworks2, but got really annoyed with it after downloading the Exeter to Bristol route, which promised a "painstakingly recreated route with new buildings and trackside scenery". Which turned out to be a load of rubbish with very little of the route actually looking like their real life counterparts.

Railworks & BVE for me.

Railworks itself has really started catching up, at one time there wasn't a good selection of add-ons now there releasing decent ones each week Woking - Portsmouth Harbour for exsample is brilliant with the Cl455 being launched soon, along with a CIG.

I personally hope they release somthing closer to home like the SEML (London Charing X to Hastings) or London Victoria to Brighton. And I also hope they complete the Portsmouth route and get it to Waterloo.

BVE4 is a great sim, my personal favorite route is the NWM.

How big's your wallet?

Personally I'd suggest 09, since you don't lose all the content you currently have, plus the majority of content is freeware.
If your computer is capable then I'd probably suggest one of the newer Trainz releases, but I've not used any of them myself yet.

I'm currently using TC3 and TS09.

Railworks is scheduled to get a Kings Cross-Welwyn route, which I'm looking forward to.

You don't have to use Railwaves, use trainsim. You'll have to queue up to get downloads but it doesn't cost any money on the free side. Just prepare yourself for some early wake ups!

BVE is good, but a little tricky to install. You'll have to learn how to unzip files and place folders into the very many subfolders, which can take time to master.

No it won't, you can download plenty of free content but I can see why it is always ignored purposefully.

How strange. Dozens of people who actually live and commute on the route said the complete opposite as well as two drivers who work it.

I know which opinion I trust more.

Good choice, I have TS2009 And it is very good. Let us know if you have any problems you can't resolve.

Sorry, I mean no offence, but in the end I changed my mind, I decided to take the plunge into Railworks. (£15 for a new boxed version on Amazon)

What convinced me in the end was the tutorials: There was loads for Railworks, and the building tools seem more life - like; more realistic track curves.

Don't forget that if you bought Railworks, that will be automatically updated to Railworks 2 and then in September, it will be updated to Railworks 3.

I think I jumped in at the right time, got a good game at a decent price, and end up with the next version free
