I've never been there, but I've got a book about HST's which has some great pictures from the Dawlish area going past the sea. You could try it!

We should add a poll to the thread, but I've got no idea how you do that!

Hi. Yes would recomend Dawlish and teignmouth. You could have a pleasant walk along the front. Exeter St Davids is also nearby.

For all those doubters about age. One year my Father could not afford to take us on holiday. He worked as a Taxi driver from Plymouth station. He got me, my brother and sister all Cornish Rail Rovers as they were then known.

My brother was 14, I was 12 and my sister was 11. On a couple of days I went by myself.

We all thoroughly enjoyed it. I therefore do not see a problem with a 14 year old travelling by themselves

Romsey station suffers from an excess of automated announcements (which drive me up the ****ing wall). Because of that it seems as though you'd enjoy hanging around :)

If you alight at Portsmouth Harbour there's plenty to see and do. There's the Dockyard, home to HMS Victory and HMS Warrior, and there's the big shopping centre adjacent to the station named Gunwharf Quays. Don't forget the Spinnaker Tower (so tall you can't miss it) adjacent to the station as well. Because the station is situated next to the harbour, you can watch the passing maritime traffic.
