I already thought it was said that if E&G was 4tph plus services from Stirling that there was no room in the timetable to serve the station?

No, the 4tph E&G and the 2tph Dunblanes work. It was the additional 2tph Queen Street - Waverley via Cumbernauld services that completely obliterated the pathing space to serve Winchburgh.

The short answer is not really. Simplistically, the capacity of a double track line is limited mostly by signal spacing (and line speed - if the trains can clear each track section faster, you can fit more in a given time); in most real-life networks you have to add the complexity of fitting different service patterns and managing headway at junctions.
