Hello, so I am wondering if there is a place that will be able to tell me what trains would run on each route. I am from the US but really interested in trains from the UK. So For example, I know the class 390 runs on the WCML but don't know if it runs on any other route or what other trains run on that route and the same for the other routes.

Does anyone know if I can find this?

Thanks

Struggling to think of anything which works for the whole UK rail system.

The Real Time Train Times site gives a clue in the form of listing what a service is *timed* for, but this needs to be treated with extreme caution as this doesn't necessarily equate to what is booked to work a specific service, although with some knowledge it can give quite a strong clue on certain routes at least.

Looking up a particular class on Wikipedia might also give a general overview of what each type of train does, but rarely going down into more specific details.

Perhaps asking on this forum might be your best bet.

Generally, Networkers, Desiros and Electrostars in the South East, Class 91s on the ECML, AT300s (80x, 395) on the ECML, GWML and HS1, Eurostars on HS1/Channel Tunnel/LGV Nord, Meridians on MML, Turbostars, Sprinters, Voyagers and HSTs nationwide, Coradias in Wales, the ECML and South East, Mark 3 MUs mostly in the South. There's definitely more to say and I haven't listed any freight as I know little about it.

You could start with these Wikipedia pages that list DMUs, EMUs, Locomotives and Loco-Hauled coaches (past and present):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Rail_diesel_multiple_unit_classes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Rail_electric_multiple_unit_classes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_Rail_modern_traction_locomotive_classes
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:British_Rail_coaching_stock

Then follow the links from the above pages to the page for each type of train where it should say where they currently operate (or operated).

There's also this of train operators. The page for each operator will list the types of train it uses.
